Overview
Kenya, like many countries, grapples with gender disparities in Science, Technology, and Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. According to data provided by Engineers Board of Kenya, the body that registers engineers and accredits engineering programmes offered by universities in Kenya, out of 2,501 registered professional engineers, only 211 are women, representing a paltry 8.4 per cent
It is for the aforementioned reasons that the Office of Career Services and the Dean of Students has incorporated this theme of, “Women in STEM.” The participants will be draw from female professors, female students in STEM and female high school students drawn from Kiambu country whose school has a mean grade of B and above. Female students are likely to join STEM programs if they are mentored early.
The panelist will consist of accomplished and inspiring female students and alumina in Science. Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The panelists will discuss their achievements and experiences and share advice about studying STEM in JKUAT.
